You and Alfred, your boyfriend, decided to take a drive to look at Christmas lights tonight. You are shivering and checking your watch when Alfred's battered pick-up truck pulls up. You walk over to the car, open the door and climb in. As the heat of the car embraces you, Alfred takes your hand to help pull you up off the running board and into the passenger seat. His hand is warm and strong.
"Hey ----------", Alfred says as his sky-blue eyes sparkle in the half-light. He leans over and kisses you on the cheek.
"Merry X-mas!" he exclaims.
"It isn't Christmas yet, Alfred," you retort.
"I wish it were Christmas already!" Alfred said with childish excitement.
You laugh and reach over to stroke his wheat-blonde hair.
"Let's go!" he said.
Alfred puts the car in drive and pulls away from the curb. You drive down snow-covered streets and look out at the houses covered with colorful and sparkling lights. The winter darkness is illuminated by their shining beauty. It is breathtaking, and as you turn to see what Alfred thinks of the lights you discover that he is looking at you. You blush and look out the window.
"What do you think of the lights, Al?"
His face looks angelic in the half-glow of the lights.
He looks at you and says, "I think they're beautiful."
Alfred continues driving until you come to a snowy field. Alfred puts the car in park and gets out. He walks over and helps you out of the passenger side. You step out and as the snow crunches under your feet, you look up to the sky. You gasp for the sky is mottled with thousands of stars set against the dark winter sky.
"Do you like it?" Alfred asks anxiously.
"I love it," you respond.
You climb into the bed of the truck and Alfred takes out a thermos of hot chocolate and pours it into two mugs. He hands you one and spreads a flannel blanket over the two of you. You sit close together and you lay your head on Alfred's shoulder. Alfred starts to name all the winter constellations for you.
"That one is Orion! He was like this awesome hero dude! You can tell which one he is because of his belt."
You turn you head and whisper into Alfred's ear, "You're my hero, Al."
Alfred turns and begins to kiss you. You kiss passionately under the stars until the winter night has lost its chill.
